Credit Cards, Club Costs and Your Dues
All of us expect that Club Management and the Board of Governors control costs to keep the cost of goods and services obtained through the Club and our dues as low as possible consistent with our desired level of service. We also expect that the dues for the various Member categories reflect the amenities offered to those categories in an equitable manner.
Did you know the Club incurred over $40,000 in costs due to Members paying their monthly bill via a credit card, and that a relatively few Members pay their bills that way? To address this inequity, the Club has announced that, effective with the February bill, there will be a $15.00 charge to Members paying their bill with a credit card. The real intent of the charge is not to raise additional revenue, but to motivate everyone to use alternate ways to pay their bill and eliminate these costs altogether.
There are two alternatives that offer Members the same level of convenience as paying by credit card, but have no or relatively low costs for the Club.
The first is to utilize the secure on-line Pay Now function which is accessed with your statement on the Member's section of the Club's web site (www.discoverseabrook.com). After a brief first time set-up, the bill can be paid by clicking on the pay now icon at the top right corner of your bill and entering the amount to be paid.
The second is to set up on-line bill payment through your bank. Most banks offer this service for no charge. This also offers the convenience of accessing this capability, clicking on the payment to the Club and entering the amount to be paid.
Of course, there is always the alternative of paying by check and mailing it in or dropping by the office to deliver it and schmooze with the friendly staff to get to know them better and to find out what's going on around the Club.
Using any of these three alternatives will save the Club money, which results in lower costs for each of us as Members. If you have any questions or would like some help in setting up the Pay Now feature, contact Maggie McKellips at mmckellips@discoverseabrook.com, or give her a call at (843)768-7504. Give it a try and let us know what you think.
