TENNIS NEWS

Construction continues at the Racquet Club! The temporary trailer is now fully operational and is housing all day to day tennis activity during the transition to our new facility. It is located to the right of the existing parking lot entrance and will serve as the check in point for all play. During the transition we will have basic tennis necessities available; tennis balls, sodas, sunscreen, bug spray, as well as towels, cups and coffee. Racquet stringing services will also be available without interruption.
The existing parking lot has been divided into two areas. When you enter the parking lot the marked area to the right is restricted only for construction traffic. Heavy equipment and trucks will be using this designated area. The left area of the parking lot is reserved for member use. Signage and diagrams are posted throughout the facility to assist members not only for parking in designated areas, but also for our established routes to the courts. For safety reasons, we request that all members follow these designated routes to and from play. For convenience, bike racks have been relocated to the parking lot area adjacent to the check in trailer. We recommend all bike traffic to the Racquet Club use the Long Bend drive entrance (same as car entrance) which will lead you directly to the check in trailer. Direct paths from the old bike rack location to the trailer have be blocked during the construction phase.
We do not anticipate court reservations, programs and normal play to be affected during the transition, with the exception of a little construction noise along the way. We appreciate your patience and cooperation through the transition and remain committed to delivering the best possible tennis experience.
Communicating with the Tennis department. Our old phone numbers (Pro Shop768-7543 and Mike Kiser direct office768-7810) are now operational and all email accounts and internet connections are now operational. Again, we thank you for your patience during the transition.

SILGA Member-Guest
A record turnout of 104 enthusiastic golfers enjoyed this year's SILGA sponsored Member Guest Tournament on October 23. Macky Farber and Chris Strobel co-chaired the event which began with a pre-tournament dinner at the home of SILGA President Patti Van De Graaf. Banner Hughes and Ginny Ennis planned and organized the party and dinner which featured Seabrook hospitality appreciated by guests and members alike. Cathy Patterson organized a creative Halloween theme putting contest on the 6th green of Crooked Oaks behind the Van De Graaf home. Participants were greeted with eerie ghost sounds and fog as they made their way through a maze of spiders, skeletons, and pumpkins to sink their putts.

After Friday's golf round with near perfect conditions on Ocean Winds, players enjoyed lunch in the impressive new Atlantic Room at the Seabrook Island Club. The room was beautifully decorated for the season and "Fall Fling" theme by Sue Williams and a host of volunteers.

Repeat low net winners of this year's event were Nicki Pantony and her guests. Tori Langen and MJ Zuccaro along with their guests were low gross winners. The "Seabrook/Orange Ball" competition went to Cathy Patterson, Mary Flynn, and guests.

Many thanks to the volunteers who made the event a success, especially Sandy Scott for coordinating invitations, reservations, and publicity. The golf course staff, under the leadership of Brian Thelan, as well as club catering and Michelle Pitney, deserve a special thanks for attention to detail and great execution.
And, very worthy of note: Ocean Winds Course was in great condition for our tournament. A very well earned thanks to Sean Hardwick and his staff.

ISLAND HOUSE DINING UPDATE
Almost 6 weeks have passed since the Island House soft opening and we have been receiving terrific reviews regarding the cuisine and service. With that in mind, we are constantly devising ideas to raise the expectations of our membership on a continual basis. This is achieved in part by receiving highly supportive member feedback. Most recently there have been questions concerning the dining reservation process that we would like to address.

Every time we call for a reservation we are told that 7:00 is booked. We've been members at the club for years now. Why is it so hard to get the reservation time I want?

Peak reservation times fall between 6-7:30 pm every night. As your stewards, we would love more than anything to give all of our members the exact reservation time they request. Unfortunately, if we chose to ignore a time cap on reservation slots, then the quality of food and service would diminish. In short, it is comparable to rush hour traffic. All vehicles entering the highway at the same time creates inevitable gridlock.

What happens if I am running late? Does my reservation get cancelled?

Please call us to let us know that you are running behind or that you have to cancel. We understand that life happens and we will always work diligently to accommodate your needs. If for some reason that we do need receive notification of a cancelled or late arrival 15 minutes past the reservation time, then we will assume that the reservation is withdrawn.

Last night, we were told by the hostess that a party of 15 or more guests must to be reserved through the Events Office. Is this the policy?

Yes. In order to facilitate larger parties, a limited menu must be discussed and agreed upon. Narrowing down the cuisine selections to your specific needs allows us to efficiently plan ahead thus allowing our staff the opportunity to provide quality and timely service.

The other night we unexpectedly decided to grab dinner at the club. We showed up without a reservation and had to wait over 30 minutes for a table. Is this normal?

We always try to accommodate walk-ins on a first come first serve basis. It is highly recommended to make reservations well in advance to ensure that you receive a table. Depending on the time you arrive, it is not abnormal for walk-ins to wait 20-45 minutes for a table.

How far in advance can I make dinner reservations?

As far as you want. In fact, the earlier a reservation is made (even 2-3 days out), the greater your chances are of receiving the desired time you prefer. In addition, our software reservation system allows us to reach out months ahead of schedule to accommodate your needs.

Our steadfast goal remains to provide our membership the best possible dining experience. If you have any other questions or ideas concerning your experience at the club's dining facilities or if you just want to call and say hello, please feel free to do so at any time.

We look forward to serving you!

Happy Dining,

Jonathan Spence

ALAN FLEMING TOURNAMENT
Seabrookers came out in a big way to make the Alan Fleming Tennis Tournament a great success. The Tournament raised over $36,000 for the Hospice of Charleston Foundation through the combined efforts of Seabrook Island Club members and staff. Seventy- eight Seabrookers donated directly to the Hospice and forty-one of the auction items were donated by island residents or Seabrook institutions.
In addition, nearly ninety Seabrookers volunteered in some capacity during the tournament. These volunteers did registration, parking, line sweeping, hospitality, and all facets of the very successful silent and live auction. In addition, 63 club members competed in the tournament.

WINE & THENSOME WITH AUTHOR DAVID COX
Wednesday, October 7th
5pm Reception, 5:30pm Presentation
The Deveaux Room
Author David Cox will be discussing his novel "Dirty Secrets, Dirty War. The Exile of Editor Robert J. Cox"

From 1976-1983, an estimated 30,000 people disappeared in Argentina. They were victims of the Dirty War a brutal campaign designed by the government to root out possible subversives. Those suspected of being dissidents were kidnapped and taken to secret detention centers. Most were tortured and then killed never seen again. Robert J. Cox, editor of the Buenos Aires Herald, did what few others were willing to do he told the truth about what was happening. Every day his newspaper reported on the kidnappings and killings. He challenged those in power asking questions and demanding answers. Cox's commitment to reporting the truth made him a hero to the families of the disappeared, but an enemy of the state. This is the remarkable story of one man's courage in the face of adversity. It is the story of a man dedicated to protecting the freedom of the press and to protecting his family. It is the story of those who disappeared and the man who stayed in order to tell their stories. Cox's story is told by his son David who grew up under the pall of terrorism, but was inspired by his father's great courage to write what was true. He has written the book that his father could not.

Using Mr. Dickens own script, storyteller Tim Lowry performs this holiday classic in the style of the Venerable Boz. Combining a variety of voices, comic characters, & animated narration this one man show is delightfully imaginative! Performed in full costume. Enjoy a high tea presented by our own Chef Randy MacDonald. $42 for non-SINHG members. Only 26 reservations remain. Call Sherry McFarlane Smith to make your reservation at 768-5496.

Club Demo Day - Friday October 16th from 10 am to 4 pm
Mark your calendars for our highly popular and fun Fall DEMO Day.
Callaway, Cleveland, Titleist/Cobra, TaylorMade, Nike, Ping Golf and YES! Putters
will all be represented. This is the best way to purchase golf clubs, having the
opportunity to work not only with our club professionals who know your game, but company
representatives who know the equipment!

We welcome you to come out and join us and experience some of this great new technology even if you are not in the market for new equipment. There is no pressure to buy, but we do offer an additional discount for orders placed that day.
