GOLF NEWS

Calling All Casual Golfers at Seabrook

Do you enjoy playing golf just for the sake of the game, good fellowship, exercise, fresh air with no expectation about score? Is 9 holes enough? Don't really know anyone else like this to play with? We've got a game for you - ladies and gentlemen.

The Casual Golf Group at Seabrook Island was launched two weeks ago and is gaining nice support with 3 to 4 groups weekly enjoying 9 holes on Ocean Winds followed by cocktails in Bohicket's. We will continue to play 9 holes each and every Friday afternoon at 3 pm. The golf shop will arrange pairings and you may also request to play with someone.

To enhance the post golf experience, Bohicket's has begun a Friday Happy Hour from 5 - 6:30 where all cocktails, beer and wine will be ½ price. Does it get any better? Remember - casual, no pressure or expectation - just play golf.

Please call or email the golf shop to get your name on the list. For those of you who don't know, we can be reached at 768-2529 or golf@discoverseabrook.com.

What a great way to play golf - play the same holes over two days and take the best score on each hole! Pick a partner and enjoy playing Ocean Winds two days in a row in this fun event. A luncheon will be held following Thursday's second round.

Holiday Sale in the Golf Shop TONIGHT Tuesday, November 16th

It is hard to believe it is time for our annual Holiday Sale coming up Tuesday, November 16th from 5-7 pm. As always, we will offer adult beverages and light hors d'oeuvres to add to the festivities. This is a great way to start your holiday shopping and have a fun evening with your friends and neighbors. If you have never been to this sale, we offer additional discounts on almost everything in the shop. You choose the discount from a random drawing when you check out. The discounts are up to 50%. Please understand we cannot hold items in advance if you are unable to attend. (Remember, this event coincides with Member's night in the Island House, so make your reservations early.)

The Ben Schenck Cup and the MGA join forces Saturday, November 20th

Last year, the "Dysfunctionals", one of Ben's regular golf groups, decided to hold a tournament for two purposes. First on the agenda was to honor Ben; who was then in the finals stages of multi year superbly fought battle with cancer. The second purpose was to raise money for The Hospice Foundation of Charleston.

So to show our support of this great cause and to honor Ben, the usual MGA Saturday play on November 20th will be played in conjunction with the 2nd annual Ben Schenck Cup. There is no entry fee for this tournament. Every player though is asked to make a contribution either by a check or a charge to your club account at the player's discretion.

The winner's name will be inscribed on the cup which holds a place of honor in the Gentlemen's lounge. However, all will take recompense in supporting this cause. Please call the Pro Shop to enter or reply to this email

If you can't play in the tournament and would still like to contribute, you too can either drop off a check or reply to this email. Thank you for your consideration in playing in the 2nd annual Ben Schenck Tournament.

Adult Clinics

Every Tuesday from 9:30 - 10:30 the professional staff conducts a short game clinic on pitching, chipping, putting, and bunker play. One week, we focus on chipping and putting. The next week, we focus on pitching and bunker. So, if you are beginner or just need a tune-up on the short game, call the Golf Shop, 768-2529, to sign up. The cost is $15.

On Thursdays from 9:30- 10:30 and Saturdays from 12 - 1, the professional staff conducts a 1 hour clinic devoted to the full swing. This is a great way for you and your guests to get quality instruction prior to playing or just to hone your skills. Whatever your playing level, the full swing clinic can aid your swing development. The cost is $15.00

Congratulations this year goes to the member team taking 12 of the eighteen sets played to capture the title.

Tennis Mentoring Program

During the past several months we have been gathering information on our new tennis mentoring program and have received a great deal of interest. We are excited to announce our new tennis mentoring program will be launched on Monday, November 22nd at 1:00pm.

Many of you have already indicated interest and, as a reminder, this program is open to all members free of charge (only the appropriate court fee applies). To participate on November 22nd, please register in advance with the pro shop (843 768-7543) to secure your spot (both mentors and "mentees" need to register). After November 22nd, the program will be offered the first and third Mondays of each month. Members who wish to participate in following sessions may sign up for each individual session as their schedule permits. The dates for next month will be Monday, Dec 6th and Monday, December 20th at 1:00pm. The sign up deadline for each session will be the Friday prior to the Monday session. We look forward to a great start and hope to see you on the courts on Monday the 22nd!

FUN!!

To help launch the program Mike and Santiago will lead an informal "mentors orientation" to give tips and advice to the mentors who will be working with the mentees. This will take place at 12:00pm on Monday, November 22nd for an hour before the programs starts. If you would like to mentor, but can't make this date, feel free to contact Mike or Santiago and we can share the information with you.
