MGA Darwin Olofson - "Locker Room" Team Match Play

Friday and Saturday December 3rd & 4th

This event took on a new personality last year becoming a Locker Room Tournament where the "Top Heavies" defeated the "Bottom Feeders" (top lockers vs. bottom lockers). The format is Ryder-Cup style team match play event using three different formats over two days. Friday's two man team formats are Four-Ball Stroke Play and Modified Alternate Shot. Saturday's final round is Individual Match Play. All gentlemen are invited and encouraged to play and if you do not currently have a locker, you'll be randomly paired with a team. The losing team buys the winning team lunch after play on Saturday. We need at least 24 players to conduct this event so please sign up early if you'd like to play.

Get Golf Ready Level 2 - Final Program of 2010 November 30 - December 3

After the over whelming success of Get Golf Ready, we found there were those out there who wanted more. More time with instructors, More questions about different shots, More about course management, More...

Get Golf Ready Level 2 is a 4 day intensive program to give the average golfer, from a 18 handicap on up, more of what they had asked.

Day 1 consists of videoing your swing. A copy is provided for you to take home and see what is happening or not happening with your swing. Also, day one is devoted to putting and the fundamentals of the full swing.

Day 2's instruction is focused on the Tee Shot-Driver and wedge play.

Day 3 is all about Short game; chipping, pitching, and greenside bunker. Also, the fairway bunker shot is added.

Day 4 is On-Course. You will be out on the course with one of our staff to play and to discuss different shots and course management.

Everyone and anyone are welcome and class size is limited to 8 students with 2 instructors.

Please call the Pro shop, 768-2529, if interested...there are 2 spots left in this program and the cost is but $199.

Adult Clinics

Every Tuesday from 9:30 - 10:30 the professional staff conducts a short game clinic on pitching, chipping, putting, and bunker play. One week, we focus on chipping and putting. The next week, we focus on pitching and bunker. So, if you are beginner or just need a tune-up on the short game, call the Golf Shop, 768-2529, to sign up. The cost is $15.

On Thursdays from 9:30- 10:30 and Saturdays from 11 -12, the professional staff conducts a 1 hour clinic devoted to the full swing. This is a great way for you and your guests to get quality instruction prior to playing or just to hone your skills. Whatever your playing level, the full swing clinic can aid your swing development. The cost is $15.00

GOLF NEWS

Calling All Casual Golfers at Seabrook

Do you enjoy playing golf just for the sake of the game, good fellowship, exercise, fresh air with no expectation about score? Is 9 holes enough? Don't really know anyone else like this to play with? We've got a game for you - ladies and gentlemen.

The Casual Golf Group at Seabrook Island was launched two weeks ago and is gaining nice support with 3 to 4 groups weekly enjoying 9 holes on Ocean Winds followed by cocktails in Bohicket's. We will continue to play 9 holes each and every Friday afternoon at 3 pm. The golf shop will arrange pairings and you may also request to play with someone.

To enhance the post golf experience, Bohicket's has begun a Friday Happy Hour from 5 - 6:30 where all cocktails, beer and wine will be ½ price. Does it get any better? Remember - casual, no pressure or expectation - just play golf.

Please call or email the golf shop to get your name on the list. For those of you who don't know, we can be reached at 768-2529 or golf@discoverseabrook.com.

What a great way to play golf - play the same holes over two days and take the best score on each hole! Pick a partner and enjoy playing Ocean Winds two days in a row in this fun event. A luncheon will be held following Thursday's second round.

Holiday Sale in the Golf Shop TONIGHT Tuesday, November 16th

It is hard to believe it is time for our annual Holiday Sale coming up Tuesday, November 16th from 5-7 pm. As always, we will offer adult beverages and light hors d'oeuvres to add to the festivities. This is a great way to start your holiday shopping and have a fun evening with your friends and neighbors. If you have never been to this sale, we offer additional discounts on almost everything in the shop. You choose the discount from a random drawing when you check out. The discounts are up to 50%. Please understand we cannot hold items in advance if you are unable to attend. (Remember, this event coincides with Member's night in the Island House, so make your reservations early.)

The Ben Schenck Cup and the MGA join forces Saturday, November 20th

Last year, the "Dysfunctionals", one of Ben's regular golf groups, decided to hold a tournament for two purposes. First on the agenda was to honor Ben; who was then in the finals stages of multi year superbly fought battle with cancer. The second purpose was to raise money for The Hospice Foundation of Charleston.

So to show our support of this great cause and to honor Ben, the usual MGA Saturday play on November 20th will be played in conjunction with the 2nd annual Ben Schenck Cup. There is no entry fee for this tournament. Every player though is asked to make a contribution either by a check or a charge to your club account at the player's discretion.

The winner's name will be inscribed on the cup which holds a place of honor in the Gentlemen's lounge. However, all will take recompense in supporting this cause. Please call the Pro Shop to enter or reply to this email

If you can't play in the tournament and would still like to contribute, you too can either drop off a check or reply to this email. Thank you for your consideration in playing in the 2nd annual Ben Schenck Tournament.

On Thursdays from 9:30- 10:30 and Saturdays from 12 - 1, the professional staff conducts a 1 hour clinic devoted to the full swing. This is a great way for you and your guests to get quality instruction prior to playing or just to hone your skills. Whatever your playing level, the full swing clinic can aid your swing development. The cost is $15.00

NOVEMBER PRESIDENT'S LETTER

SEABROOK ISLAND CLUB ACTIVITIES - NOVEMBER 1

Since the last report, the Club has been a very busy place. At the end of September, the Club hosted the 2011 Men's Golf Member-Guest Tournament. The next week, the Club hosted the annual Alan Flemming Charity Tennis Tournament, raising $37,500 for the Charleston Hospice. The annual Women's Golf Member-Guest Tournament was held on the weekend of October 23rd. All of these events were great successes, show-casing the Club's facilities and services and providing a great time for our Members and guests. Thanks to our staff and volunteers for a great job! By the time you read this, we will also have celebrated the opening of the Equestrian Center's refurbished barn and new office and waiting area with a special event and a entertained our Members with a Friday night dinner-theater featuring Seabrook Island Club Members in a specially written play.

Membership:

The Get Golf Ready program, the golf clinics and the individual instruction offered by our highly skilled golf professionals have been very well received over the last two years. As a result, more individuals and couples are starting to enjoy play on the Club's two courses and may be considering upgrading their membership to increase their access to more rounds without paying greens fees. The Board of Governors approved a reduction in the joining fee for the Full Membership category, effective 11/1/2010, reducing it from $36,000 to $30,000, with new Members selecting the Full or Social Membership category at the time of joining enjoying an additional 20% discount. For existing Members, a promotion encouraging membership category upgrades was approved for the period of 11/1/2010 through 2/28/2010. During this period, a Community Member can upgrade to a Social membership category for $4,000, which is half of the current upgrade fee, or to a Full membership category for $12,000, which is a savings of $6,000 from the standard upgrade fee. Social/Sports Members can upgrade to a Full membership category for $4,000, which is also a $6,000 savings from the standard upgrade fee. There is plenty of capacity on our two beautiful courses, so consider taking advantage of one of these offers and enjoy golf with your friends and neighbors even more.

Board of Governor Nominations

The Board received the following report from the 2011 Nominating Committee, chaired by Chuck Fox:

"The Seabrook Island Club's Nominating Committee met on the 21st and 22nd of October to review seven candidates to serve on the 2011 Seabrook Island Club's Board of Governors. The members of the 2011 nominating committee were: John Feldman, John Haberern, Bing Gilardi, Sue Holloman and Ed Puckhaber. Chuck Fox served as the Chair for the committee in a non-voting position. The Nominating Committee was charged with recommending to the Club's membership five club members in good standing to fill five vacancies. The committee was very impressed with the qualifications of all of the candidates and their strong commitment to the Seabrook Island Club.

The Nominating Committee is recommending that the following Club members be approved by the membership to serve three year terms on the Board:

Bob Scott, Bill Greubel, Dan Sutton and Barbara Condon to 3 year terms.

The committee is nominating Jim Newton to serve a one year term on the Board."

We are all grateful for the good work of the nominating committee and to those who are willing to serve on the Board.
