BEACH CLUB CLOSED AT 3PM ON 9/11
Due to the Veteran's event on Saturday, September 11th, the Pelican's Nest & The Beach Club will be closing at 3pm.
CALL FOR CLUB BOARD CANDIDATES
If you have an interest in serving on the Seabrook Island Club's Board of Governors or know someone you feel would be a good candidate now is the time to submit resumes for the nomination to the Board. A nominating committee has been established. It is the task of the nominating committee to interview candidates who have expressed an interest on serving on the Board. The nominating process will be completed prior to the November Club Board of Governors' meeting. Nominated candidates will stand for election as part of the Club's Annual Meeting process in February of 2011. Newly elected Board members typically serve three year terms and assume their duties immediately following the Annual Meeting.
Serving on the Club's Board is an important undertaking. In evaluating candidates, the Nominating Committee will consider each candidates' experience, capabilities, and willingness to assume additional responsibilities.
Experience and Capabilities:
Must be a member of the Club in good standing
Should have experience in working on one or more Club committees or been active in POA and/or island activities
Should have a basic understanding of financial statements or at least some budgetary experience
Should have the ability to work in a team environment and contribute to the Club's vision and goals.
Responsibilities:
Assume chair of one standing committee and vice chair of another
Attend one Board meeting a month (usually the fourth Monday) and two committee meetings a month
Base decisions on what is best for the membership as a whole and not on personal or special interest group agendas
Actively support and defend decisions of the Board (team attitude)
Maintain all declared Board confidences
Accept special assignments as requested by the Board President
If Board service appeals to you, please send an electronic copy of a resume expressing your interest and outlining your personal and professional background and relevant Seabrook Island volunteer service NLT 15 October 2010 to Chuck Fox at: marilychuck@comcast.net. Tel: 843 343 3391
JOINT SURVEY RESULTS
The 2010 Joint SIC/SIPOA Survey provided tremendously valuable feedback with regards to our club operations. Overall the results were very positive, as significant improvement was seen in almost every aspect and a general opinion that the Club is moving in the right direction in terms of value and management. Some of the primary themes were...
Dining
Overall significant improvement and favorable remarks on the Pelican's Nest and Island House dining were received with improvements noted in our menu selections, staff friendliness, management's ability to handle issues in a timely manner and our dining facilities being a top choice when deciding where to eat. The reservations system at Pelican's Nest in late 2009 did not meet your needs, as was reflected in many comments, and a desire for longer hours and lengthened season were prominent as well. We have extended the season of the Nest and also lengthened the kitchen's operating hours this summer and hope that these actions prove to be worthwhile and satisfying. Additionally, we will continue to focus on value for our members.
Social Events
Marked improvement in how our social events are managed was noted, with frequent requests for more casual, fun/active events. It was clear that maintaining reasonable costs for most events was favored and that more (with regards to the number of events, menu offerings and entertainment) is not always more.
Golf and Tennis
Both golf and tennis comments were incredibly positive on all fronts including, but not limited to, staff friendliness and service, programs and court and course conditions! Improvement was found in nearly all areas with very favorable remarks on our staff professionals.
Equestrian
Our Equestrian Center, though popular as an attraction, was found to be utilized little by our members with price/value being a key contributor.
Beach Club
High marks on our Beach Club facility and improvement from past surveys was noted, particularly with the performance of our managers and staff members. The additional umbrellas added at the beginning of the season seem to be appreciated, but the desire for more shade continues to be a common request.
We appreciate the input and participation of all of those who completed the survey and hope you take the time to click HERE for the full detail of the results.
