As we perfect the service rhythm needed to provide the best dining experience you may notice some empty tables. During this initial phase of opening we have been limiting reservations as we experiment with staffing levels and reservation times. We ask for your patience during this time if you happen to see vacant tables but were asked to make an earlier or later reservation. As always, elevating and maintaining excellent service for our membership is our sole focus.

THANK YOU TO ALL OUR MEMBERS

A HUGE thank you to everyone who came out to support the Club for our Grand Opening Party! We all appreciate your patience and understanding during the last year while we were under construction & transitioning. It was really wonderful to see everyone have such a great time and finally be able to celebrate in style. Also, another huge thank you to Bank of America, Trident Construction and Glick-Boehm for the great job they've done. Here is some of the feedback we have received from Club members.

"Congratultions! I think the opening party was a huge success and you deserve much, much credit for a well-planned, well-executed event." Jane Dunham

"Every club member in attendance we spoke to was amazed and terribly proud of our new Clubhouse & the present staff. Our heartfelt thanks go out to every single person that took part in the planning of the event and every single person who worked the event. This will certainly be a night for all of us at Seabrook to remember!" Sherry & Jack Vincent

"The food was incredibly delicious, plentiful, & presented beautifully. The buffet stands had the most gorgeous ice carvings & floral arrangements I have ever seen." Lois & Ed Rinehimer

WINE & THENSOME WITH AUTHOR DAVID COX
Wednesday, October 7th
5pm Reception, 5:30pm Presentation
The Deveaux Room
Author David Cox will be discussing his novel "Dirty Secrets, Dirty War. The Exile of Editor Robert J. Cox"

From 1976-1983, an estimated 30,000 people disappeared in Argentina. They were victims of the Dirty War a brutal campaign designed by the government to root out possible subversives. Those suspected of being dissidents were kidnapped and taken to secret detention centers. Most were tortured and then killed never seen again. Robert J. Cox, editor of the Buenos Aires Herald, did what few others were willing to do he told the truth about what was happening. Every day his newspaper reported on the kidnappings and killings. He challenged those in power asking questions and demanding answers. Cox's commitment to reporting the truth made him a hero to the families of the disappeared, but an enemy of the state. This is the remarkable story of one man's courage in the face of adversity. It is the story of a man dedicated to protecting the freedom of the press and to protecting his family. It is the story of those who disappeared and the man who stayed in order to tell their stories. Cox's story is told by his son David who grew up under the pall of terrorism, but was inspired by his father's great courage to write what was true. He has written the book that his father could not.

In addition, the Club is reaching out to your friends and neighbors that are not Club members with a Grand Opening Special Membership offer. The offer is an exclusive, limited time membership opportunity in connection with the new Island House Grand Opening celebration and in support of the Horizon Plan vision of an integrated set of amenities available to all Seabrook Island property owners. Seabrook Island Hosting This Week's 2009 WSCGA
Stroke Play Championship

The Seabrook Island Club's Ocean Winds course is the site of South Carolina's premier ladies' amateur golf tournament, the WSCGA Stroke Play Championship, to be played September 15-17.

The field for the 54-hole tournament, considered the "state championship" of amateur women's golf, includes prior champions Kim Abbott, Lea Venable, and 3-time winner Lee Anne Brown. Defending champion Dawn Woodard and contestant Wallace Hamerton recently represented South Carolina on the USGA Women's State Team that placed 5th in the national tournament; Ms. Woolard placed 2nd in individual scoring.

Ocean Winds, one of Seabrook's two, strikingly different championship courses, is a Willard Byrd layout made especially challenging by the ubiquitous ocean breezes that constantly shift speed and direction. The course will play 5821 yards for the Championship Division and 5453 yards for the State Division.

Upon completion of the championship round Thursday, awards will be presented at a luncheon in the Atlantic Ballroom of the new Seabrook Island clubhouse. The tournament coincides with the opening of a new club complex, part of a $30 million coordinated development program to build new recreation, entertainment, dining and social facilities throughout the island.

Seabrook Island Club is a certified member of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for golf courses. Seabrook was the first golf facility to receive this recognition in the state of South Carolina and 75th in the U.S.

Seabrook Island is a private island community. In addition to golf, members and their guests enjoy a nationally recognized tennis center, horseback riding, a fitness center with indoor pool and many other amenities. Yet, despite its peaceful seclusion, Seabrook Island is conveniently located less than 30 minutes from all the charms of Charleston, the south's most romantic city.

SEAN'S CORNER
Golf Course Overseeding News

In this months Veranda, there is an article in "Inside the Grass" that is a must read as it announces the decision to skip overseeding fairways on Ocean Winds this fall.

Some of the things that you must know about the overseeding decision follow:

Not overseeding provides:
- Improved health and quality of the dominant stand of bermudagrass
- A substantial decrease in weeds, especially Poa Annua
- Elimination of transition problems from bermudagrass to rye and back to bermudagrass again in the spring
- Less disruption of play and poor playing conditions during seed establishment
- Less water and chemical, and fertilizer use on the course
- Quicker green up in the spring and early summer of the bermudagrass

The disadvantages to not overseeding are:
- Poorer quality turf conditions in late winter and early spring compared to overseeded turf
- More wear of the dormant turf due to cart traffic
- Less consistency in the turf canopy
- More Cart Path Only pressure due to less ability to soak up rains

The practice of non overseeding is a favored practice in the turf industry, promoted by the USGA and the educational industry in general. We will still overseed Crooked Oaks as normal, tees, greens and fairways, so the opportunity to play on overseeded fairways will still be available.

Check out the full article in the Veranda.
