CALL FOR CLUB BOARD CANDIDATES

If you have an interest in serving on the Club's Board of Governors or know someone you feel would be a good candidate, now is the time to submit resumes for nomination to the Board. A Nominating Committee has been established. Its task is to interview candidates who are interested in being considered for election to the Board and to select nominees to stand for election. The nominating process will be completed before the end of November, and the election will be part of the February 2010 Annual Meeting. Newly elected Board members typically serve three-year terms and assume their duties immediately following the Annual Meeting.

Serving on the Club's Board of Governors is a serious and demanding undertaking. In evaluating candidates, the Nominating Committee will consider each candidate's experience, capabilities, and willingness to assume requisite responsibilities.

Experience and Capabilities:

-Should be a member of the Club in good standing for a minimum of three years to have a good feel for the essence of the Club and Island
-Should have experience in working on one or more Club committees or have been active in POA and/or other Island endeavors
-Should have basic understanding of financial statements or at least some prior budgetary experience
-Should have prior management experience at some level
-Should have the ability to work in a team environment and contribute with the Club's vision and goals in mind

Responsibilities:

-Assume Chair of one standing committee and Vice Chair of another
-Attend one and occasionally two Board meetings (fourth and sometimes second Mondays of each month) and two committee meetings each month as well as other "special" meetings and functions as needed
-Commit no less than one full day per week on average to Club business
-Base decisions on what is best for the membership as a whole and not on personal or special interest group agendas
-Actively support and defend decisions of the Board (team attitude)
-Attend the vast majority of all Board and committee meetings in person
-Maintain all declared Board confidences
-Accept special assignments from time to time as needed

If Board service appeals to you, please send an electronic copy of a resume detailing your personal and professional background and capabilities and your Seabrook Island volunteer service to Richard Marion at: rwmarion2@aol.com.
