One Day Member-Guest or Member-Member Friday, February 12
We've scheduled another One Day Member-Guest or Member-Member to coincide with the Annual Meetings on Member's Weekend. The tournament will begin at 12:30 on Crooked Oaks, and an awards party with hors d'oeuvres and cash bar will follow play.
This is a great opportunity for our members, ladies and gentlemen, to invite up to three (3) guests or pair up with another member, and enjoy a friendly competition, food and fellowship. The format is Four-Ball Stroke Play and the entry fee is $50 per person which includes carts, guest fee, prizes and awards party. Please sign up by calling the golf shop at 768-2529 or email golf@discoverseabrook.com with your team's information.
SILGA Home and Home with the Governor's Club Tuesday, February 16
Our ladies travel to Kiawah Island to play against the members of the Governor's Club. The event will be played at the Cougar Point Course beginning with a 9 am shotgun start. A luncheon will be held following play and the entry fee is $50 per player. Please call or email the golf shop to get signed up.
Employee vs. Member Golf Challenge Monday, February 22
This is a truly unique and fun event which offers employees of the club the opportunity to play golf with our members. Employees team up and play against teams of members. It's a chance to get to know each other better in a casual setting and everyone enjoys pizza together following play.
The event is open to all members, gentlemen and ladies, but the field is limited to the first 36 to sign up. The format is Four-Ball Match Play, 90% handicap up to a maximum of 32. A shotgun start is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Crooked Oaks and you may sign up by calling the golf shop.
Adult Clinics
Every Tuesday from 9:30 - 10:30 the professional staff conducts a short game clinic on pitching, chipping, putting, and bunker play. One week, we focus on chipping and putting. The next week, we focus on pitching and bunker. So, if you are beginner or just need a tune-up on the short game, call the Golf Shop, 768-2529, to sign up. The cost is $15.
On Thursdays from 9:30- 10:30 and Saturdays from 12 - 1, the professional staff conducts a 1 hour clinic devoted to the full swing. This is a great way for you and your guests to get quality instruction prior to playing or just to hone your skills. Whatever your playing level, the full swing clinic can aid your swing development. Tennis Ladies Fundraiser for Mt. Zion Results:
We collected $1600 from ladies tennis members and were fortunate to also receive approximately $700 in toys from the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program. The cash was divided with $600 going for clothes and books and $1000 for food gift certificates.
The books, toys , clothes, and food certificates were delivered to Mt. Zion Elementary School on the morning of Thursday, December 17. School Nurse Abbi Beckford accepted the items on behalf of the school and began distributing the gifts by that afternoon. Fifteen families with 32 children were the recipients of the gifts and food. Additional toys and books were also distributed to other needy children not a part of the 15 families.
A special thanks to the following ladies who assisted in the Mt. Zion effort:
Paula Adamson, Diane Holtz, Brenda Schmalzriedt, Charlotte Moran, Sue Ciancio, Pixie Hider, and Marilyn Armstrong.
Construction Information
Construction continues at the Racquet Club! The temporary trailer is now fully operational and is housing all day to day tennis activity during the transition to our new facility. It is located to the right of the existing parking lot entrance and will serve as the check in point for all play. During the transition we will have basic tennis necessities available; tennis balls, sodas, sunscreen, bug spray, as well as towels, cups and coffee. Racquet stringing services will also be available without interruption.
The existing parking lot has been divided into two areas. When you enter the parking lot the marked area to the right is restricted only for construction traffic. Heavy equipment and trucks will be using this designated area. The left area of the parking lot is reserved for member use. Signage and diagrams are posted throughout the facility to assist members not only for parking in designated areas, but also for our established routes to the courts. For safety reasons, we request that all members follow these designated routes to and from play. For convenience, bike racks have been relocated to the parking lot area adjacent to the check in trailer. We recommend all bike traffic to the Racquet Club use the Long Bend drive entrance (same as car entrance) which will lead you directly to the check in trailer. Direct paths from the old bike rack location to the trailer have been blocked during the construction phase.
We do not anticipate court reservations, programs and normal play to be affected during the transition, with the exception of a little construction noise along the way. We appreciate your patience and cooperation through the transition and remain committed to delivering the best possible tennis experience.
Communicating with the Tennis department. Our old phone numbers (Pro Shop 768-7543 and Mike Kiser direct office 768-7810) are operational and all email accounts and internet connections are now operational. Again, we thank you for your patience during the transition.
