IMPORTANT PELICAN'S NEST ANNOUNCEMENT
The Pelican's Nest will be closing tomorrow, Wednesday, June 24th at 3:00pm for maintenance. The bar will re-open Thursday, June 25th at 11:00am and the kitchen will re-open at 5:00pm. Thank you for your understanding.

MESSAGE FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER

The opening 30 days of the new Beach Club has gone remarkably well and we're proud of the results that have stemmed from the hard work and dedication of our employees, volunteer leaders and vendors. To better communicate with our members, the top 5 issues that have received the greatest amount of feedback have been identified and are commented on below, in no particular order.

Shade at the Beach Club
The screens on the arbors have been installed and seem to be providing a good amount of shade around the pool. However, there seems to be a demand for additional shade around the beach area. Based upon feedback collected during the design phase, the overwhelming results basically stated that (a) more shade area was needed around the pool and (b) more sunning area was needed on the beach area. It is this feedback that resulted in the current design. Though there are no plans to add any shade areas to the beach club in 2009, this could be something that is addressed in the 2010 budget for next season, if the recently installed shade screens do not adequately address the desire for shaded areas.

Pelican's Nest Wine Cups
Many have voiced concerns that the existing plastic cup used for wine at the Pelican's Nest is "flimsy and cheap". We are looking into other alternatives, which could be more expensive. However, because the existing dish machine in the kitchen and the general design of the dish table area was geared around an operation using mostly disposable items, we are not able to purchase an acrylic cup or any other type of cup which requires washing; we simply do not have the space and equipment capabilities. We will continue to look at our options and, hopefully, we will find something that suits everyone's needs.

Drop Down Plastic "Walls" for Pelican's Nest
It has been recommended that drop down plastic "walls" be purchased for the Pelican's Nest dining area, which could be lowered on rainy days. However, because of the South Carolina heat and humidity, it is felt that this enclosure would create a sauna-like effect and increase discomfort dramatically. Additionally, these can be expensive and detract from the restaurant's most unique and appealing characteristic: the view. We also feel additional experience with the site will be useful before considering any changes major changes. We have had an unusually active weather situation at a time when the Pelican's Nest is the only dining area. Next year there will be an alternative during inclement weather, and, hopefully, more normal Seabrook Island weather patterns.

Healthy Kid's Menu Options at the Pelican's Nest
We are currently looking into offering additional selection/s of healthier items on our kids menu, if it is cost-efficient. We hope to have the results soon.

Keg Beer at the Pelican's Nest
In the past Pelican's Nest has not offered draught beer, and there were no comments regarding beer selection when design requirements were gathered, so the designs of the kitchen and bar areas were for a non-draught beer restaurant. Though this does limit the selection of beers somewhat, as we cannot serve glass bottle beers, we have increased our selection of can beers, which has received many positive comments. Because of the available space behind the bar, adding a keg refrigerator is simply not an option. Additionally, with the refrigeration space in the kitchen, combined with the cost of installing insulated beer lines under the building, installing a quality draught beer system does not seem to be feasible as well. We look forward to having many draught beers available in the new Bohicket's Lounge in the new Island House, but it appears as though the Pelican's Nest will need to remain a can beer only facility.

We hope that you find these comments helpful and you have a better understanding of the reasoning and logic used in the design and operation of the Beach Club. Thanks to all of you who continue to support our new Beach Club operation!

Caleb Elledge, CCM
General Manager/COO

SEABROOK HISTORY COMMITTEE

A Committee has been given the task by the Board of Governors to write a History of the Seabrook Island Club. They are particularly interested in anything that residents might have in their files from the developers bankruptcy in 1989 until the year 2000. If you owned property here during that time, it would help the committee if you took a quick look through your files to see if you have any information. Please contact Committee Chairman Ron Ciancio at 768-4214 if you find anything you feel would be helpful. Thank you very much.

A Note From Ken Kavanaugh
As our club has completed new ratings for both our courses, we are now looking at the allocation of handicap strokes on both holes. This process is done primarily by looking separately at scorecards of lower(1-10) and higher handicap(20 and above) golfers and comparing difficulty of holes. This methodology is recommended by the USGA. In addition, we are asking male golfers to complete a survey to help us confirm and assist in this process. An explanation and the survey can be picked up and returned to the pro shop. If you are out of town, send Ken Kavanaugh an email at kenrkav@aol.com and I will email back to you. Thanks for helping our effort to improve the golfing experience on our two excellent courses.

Will the Pelican's Nest take reservations? ·Because we predict such high demand, we will not be able
to accommodate a reservation system this year. However, we will be taking reservations for The Sunday Fish Fry in order to help our kitchen better prepare.
Will the weather affect the hours of operation of the Seabrook Shoppe or Pelican's Nest?
·No. We're committed to being open rain or shine. Only if severe weather threatens the safety of our
members, guests and employees will we close or alter the hours of operation.
Will there be live entertainment at the Pelican's Nest? ·Yes, each Friday and Sunday night from 5pm~9pm.
Will the international service staff be returning this summer? ·No. Due to the variations that often
accompany a construction project of this magnitude, we did not feel that it would be responsible to commit to
this program, though the results in the past have been very positive. There are a lot of expenses associated
with the H2B's and we did not want to be found in the position of having to fund this staffing program if
there were significant delays with opening the facilities. This is one of the reasons we've chosen to close the
Island House and transfer all food and beverage staff to the Pelican's Nest. Most likely this program will
return in the future.
What will happen to the fitness center? ·The fitness center equipment will transition to the new Lake
House facility this summer. The existing fitness center building will become a support building for the Ocean
Terrace, housing restrooms, changing rooms and storage for banquet furnishings.
